Still working away on the bathroom refresh for the ORC. I underestimated the time the pre-paint prep work this bathroom would take. I spent way too much time and effort trying to get the glass shower doors clean! Then I spent a good part of a day trying to get the the exhaust fan down to clean it. I was about to just rip it down and go buy a new one! Thank goodness for google search and people who do videos on how to do almost everything. Of course I watched several of those and checked in on Instagram before I found what I needed. By that time it was time for lunch and there was no food in the house. Off to the grocery store. Can’t go shopping hungry so made a Chickfila stop first.
I guess it was hairspray and dust that was blocking the vents of the exhaust fan. I took a lot of elbow grease to get it clean. While scrubbing away I was still thinking that maybe a new one would be worth it. A quick check of the price of a new one and I went back to scrubbing. I didn’t remember it costing that much! Thankfully it finally came clean and looks like new.
When this bathroom was updated the last time we used a decorative shoe moulding that was beautiful for like a week. After that it just collected dirt and never really looked clean. I decided that has got to go. Replacing that led to replacing the baseboards which means a Home Depot run.
I took the air vent cover off to clean it and spray it with a fresh coat of white paint and realized the duct is dirty too. When I pulled the vacuum out of the closet I hurt my back. Why do they have to be so heavy?! Now I have to go to the drugstore for a heat patch for my back. I will vacuum the duct as much as possible, but I think a total house duct cleaning needs to be scheduled. It’s amazing how one thing always leads to another.
I was able to scrub the walls and the cabinets before my back went out. I was also able to spackle the holes in the walls and a couple on the ceiling. The sanding had to wait for my back to relax though.
The walls are ready for paint now but will have to wait for my next day off. The cabinets are painted and I really like how they turned out. Lowe’s had some bathroom cabinets setup and they were finished in a beautiful shade of gray. As you can tell I changed my mind about painting the cabinets white. Lowe’s has Valspar sample size paints. The one I bought to try was perfect and the sample was more than enough for the two cabinets. I think it was only like $3 or $4 dollars.
What’s left to do?
Paint the ceiling and walls – Install new light fixture – Install new faucet – Install baseboards and new shoe moulding – Install new vent cover – Decorate and of course flowers and candles – Then a bubble bath in the fresh bathroom! I can’t wait for the decorating part! That’s my favorite!
Be sure to set aside some time again this week to check in on the Featured Designers and the other Guest Designers. It is very inspiring!
