Who is ready for An Elegant Guest Room Makeover with the One Room Challenge?
Me, me, me!
It’s that time again!
This is the only time I actually get a room completely decorated.
Usually I do bits and pieces of different projects and don’t really get anything done.
Please tell me you do that too…

I’ve lost track of how many times I have joined this One Room Challenge. I do know I wouldn’t have rooms completed without it.
There were three areas in the running for this challenge. A guest room, the garage, or the backyard / patio area.
The bedroom / junk room won this time. Hopefully it will become an elegant guest room at the end of this eight week challenge.
The eight weeks is going to be so much better than the six weeks this challenge was previously. I think it was extended to eight weeks with the last challenge.
This room has gone through many changes since moving here.
Let me see if I can remember all of them…
First it had twin beds when my twin boys were little. Then it went to two loft beds with desks. Then my daughter graduated college and moved out so one of the boys took over her room. Now both sons have graduated college and one has moved out leaving this room empty.
I knew I would eventually create a guest room, but it became a dumping area.
Do you have an area that collects all the random junk?
It is now time to get rid of the junk and get this elegant guest room makeover done.
Here is a little sneak peak of the new dresser hardware.
Aren’t they just the cutest! They come in a pack of 20, which is wonderful because this dresser needs 16!
That plant in the background is in the laundry room right now. That may need to come inside.
Let’s get to the plan for this room
- Clear out the miscellaneous junk
- Deep clean top to bottom
- Paint ceiling, walls, baseboards, closet doors
- Wallpaper or paint closet
- Paint the bed frame
- Makeover secondhand dresser that I previously painted black
- Replace mattress
- Replace wood blinds
- Some kind of curtains
- Replace fan with light fixture (will have table fan)
- Replace rug
- Pretty basket for guest essentials
- Maybe a mini mini fridge?
- Cozy and plush pillows and bedding
- Art for the walls
- Full length mirror
- Plush towels
That’s all I can think of for now.
Always subject to change though. 😉
Now, with all of that to do, what do I do?
Clean and organize the garage!
Woo hoo! The Christmas stuff is officially put away!
Let me show you a few before photos…
A lot of this is from the last One Room Challenge. The Master Bedroom
Dresser drawers already painted
Not sure what I’m going to do with that green antique armoire. It was my husband’s great grandmothers. I know I want to paint it, but where to put it is the problem.

Ha ha I always need some sort of deadline to finish projects. Usually it’s a guest coming to visit or a necessary repair will get us rolling on something else. Good luck!! The room will be fabulous!

You have quite a list and I can’t wait to see how it all turns out! AND, I adore those drawer pulls;)
For a guest room I like to have magazines and books, pen/pencil & paper, clock, night light, and a choice of pillow firmness.
Have fun!!!!

Maria, Thank you so much! I never thought of having a choice of pillow firmness! That is genius!🤗

What to do with those empty rooms? One is the ‘let’s organize photos and explore ancestry’ with space for the new Peletron. The other one I hope will be mine for my interests and office. The other one will turning into a guest room eventually. Love the knobs.
