First, I need to say this One Room Challenge kicked my butt this round! Second, I would not have finished it if not for the deadline of the challenge. So, I am thankful I joined again.
If this is your first visit you can get caught up by checking out the previous weeks here. Week One – Week Two – Week Three – I skipped Week Four – Week Five – That brings us up to this final week.
I was just looking over the initial list I made. That fabric over the sink was for a sink skirt that I decided not to use. I didn’t want to cover the gold legs! I did purchase two different rugs and ended up using the one that I was already using. The one I was so excited about initially was totally wrong the moment it was unrolled. I took it back and found another one. I knew I didn’t love it, so I shouldn’t have brought it home. Back it went.
The nasty laundry sink makeover made a huge difference! There was no way to get it clean. I ended up just sanding it a bit and then painting it bright white. I had some gold paint and figured why not paint the legs gold. Then one of my sons installed the new faucet for me. Wow! The transformation of this was enough to keep me going. I put up some self stick tiles behind the sink. They were a gift from a conference I attended a couple years ago. I was happy to finally have a place to use them. Most of them required extra glue. Every night a few would fall off. 😂 (*Update* every single tile fell off over the next few days and had to be reattached)
Next up was the floor. It took several days just to get the bare concrete clean. Before painting I had to get a plumber in to remove the water softener and to clear the drain for the washer. We just had a hose going across the floor to the laundry sink. Now that the sink was looking so good, the hose would detract from that. Also, I was never crazy about having a hose running across the floor. As soon as the plumbers finished I started rolling on the paint in 4 foot sections and sprinkling the Rusteoleum glitter and paint flecks. I let that dry over night and then sealed it all with a high gloss sealer. I let that dry overnight too. I remember waking up the next morning and being excited to run out there and see how it looked. I’ve said it once and I will probably say it a hundred times. Why did I wait so long!
Getting excited that everything was coming together. I then started on the trim for the window and the door from the garage. Let’s just say, I am not a trim carpenter! It took FOREVER! I was so happy with how the window turned out. Then I realized the trim on the sides was on backwards! I was mad for a second. Oh, well. I put the curtain up and it covers it so done and done. 😊
My son helped me build a shelf for behind the washer and dryer. I’m happy with how it came out, but that was another clue that I am not a carpenter! I painted that out and let it dry over night. Then it was finally time to decorate. My favorite!
I do need to let you know to go check out the massive amount of inspiration of the other Guest Designers and the Featured Designers. I’m still going through them a little at a time. Big thanks to Better Homes and Gardens and the One Room Challenge for giving me the push I needed.
