Well…..
I don’t ever really make anything from wood and this challenge was no exception!
SO, the big secret….
A pre-made tray that I will decorate and embellish.
Behr Paint gave me the tray and some white paint when I attended a virtual conference this past summer.
I painted it and then just let it sit like I so often do with projects.
This brilliant idea came to me while wallpapering the under counter wall in the kitchen. I had plenty of wallpaper left over and I knew it would be perfect for this tray!
Step one for making a footed tray the super easy way –
Buy a tray or find one around your house.
Step Two –
Paint it.
Step two was already done so I decided to paint the rim gold.
I told you I’m on a gold kick lately!
I used the gold from this set of Anna Griffin Paints that just came in the mail. Those are sadly sold out. This chalk paint and wax looks like they would be great.
As I go along you will see this was an unnecessary step. I ended up covering it with some lacy ribbon.
Once I start a project I want to get it done fast. I didn’t want to wait on the paint to dry, so I used my embossing tool. If you don’t have an embossing tool, you could just use your hairdryer if you are impatient like me.
Or, just wait like normal people.
As I was drying it, I thought “I should have put some embossing powder on this” Hahaha!
Step Three –
Wallpaper the bottom of the tray.
I actually wallpapered the bottom of the tray and then painted the rim.
Do you remember when I was wallpapering the wall in the kitchen, I said I didn’t have a wallpaper squeegee so I used a putty spatula?
If I would have just looked in the wallpaper box!
It came with one!
Oh well. I got to use it on this and it made a big difference.
Perfect!
Step Four –
Gather some things you think you might want to use to embellish your tray.
I found some ribbon, lace, pearls and the “legs”
Step Five –
Get your hot glue gun out and start gluing your choice of embellishments onto your tray.
Step Six –
Hot glue the “legs” on.
*These are left over cabinet pulls*
Step Seven –
Style the tray and stand back and admire your work.
Light a candle and enjoy some cocoa in a beautiful mug.
A closer look at the lace and the legs. I used three layers of lace on the short handle side and one layer on the long sides.
I couldn’t stop once I got started styling this tray.
Look at this Christmas themed tray!
There is no limit to what you could use.
